This year there are quite a few changes to the Elementary Korean LA Classes.
Here is the new schedule.
Elementary Korean LA with Ms Meng
Senior Preschool: Tuesdays and Wednesdays
Kindergarten: Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays
From Grade 1 to Grade 5 have 4 sessions per week

Elementary - Term 1
Senior Preschool
Kindy will begin the year by learning basic greetings, introducing themselves, family members, friends and Korean manners. This term we will especially focus on friendships and the students will learn vocabulary and simple phrases related to the emotional feelings through songs and fun games.
Kindy will also celebrate Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving) linked with UOI ‘Who We Are’ and will learn Korean customs and traditions like bowing, dancing (강강술래), wearing special clothes (한복) and polite vocabulary for giving best wishes to people (행복한 추석 보내세요!).
Kindergarten
Reception will begin the year by learning Korean celebration, Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving). The students will learn Korean customs and traditions like bowing, dancing (강강술래), wearing special clothes (한복), polite vocabulary for giving best wishes to people (행복한 추석 보내세요!).
We will have an opportunity to perform in our Korean assembly.
After that Reception will focus on how to express our feelings in Korean linked with UOI ‘How We Express Ourselves’. They will learn vocabulary and simple phrases related to the emotional feelings and polite manners through songs and fun activites.
All around the year Korean LA class will introduce seasons, days of the week and months in conjuction with UOI ‘How The World Works’.
Grade 1 Standard Level
Grade 1 will begin the year by learning how to read and write the Korean alphabet. The students will learn how to introduce themselves including their names, nationalities, ages, where they live, their favourite things and basic greetings linked with the unit ‘Ourselves’.
After the unit ‘Ourselves’ Grade 1 will study balanced and healthy lifestyle in conjunction with UOI ‘Who We Are’. The students will learn vocabulary and simple expressions related to the body parts, work and relaxation, emotional feelings, healthy and unhealthy food.
Grade 1 will also celebrate Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving) and Hangul Day (Korean language proclamation day) linked with the unit ‘Celebration’.
Grade 2 Standard Level
Grade 2 will begin the year by learning how to read and write the Korean alphabet. The students will learn how to introduce themselves including their names, nationalities, ages, where they live, their families and basic greetings linked with the unit ‘Ourselves’.
After this Grade 2 will study about ‘Hanok’ linked with the unit ‘Where We Are Place and Time’. The students will learn vocabulary related to the house and will study traditional and modern Korean houses, Korean lifestyle and weather conditions and field trip to the Korean traditional house, Hanok.
Grade 2 will also celebrate Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving) and Hangul Day (Korean language proclamation day) linked with the unit ‘Celebration’.
Grade 3 Foundation Level
Grade 3 will begin the year by learning how to read and write the Korean alphabet. The students will learn how to introduce themselves including their names, nationalities, ages, where they live, their families and basic greetings linked with the unit ‘Ourselves’.
After that Grade 3 will study ‘Locations & Directions’. The students will learn locations about our community such as school, shopping mall, supermarket, stations, hospital etc. and how to ask for or giving directions in Korean.
Grade 3 will also celebrate Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving) and Hangul Day (Korean language proclamation day) linked with the unit ‘Celebration’.
Grade 4 foundation Level
At the beginning of the term Grade 4 will study the unit ‘Restaurant (Level 2)’. The students will learn vocabulary related to food, drinks, taste, tableware, numbers and counting units. They also will learn how to order at a restaurant, asking for more, making a suggestion, talking about their favourite food, reading a menu, how to pay, Korean table manners and settings. At the end of the unit Grade 4 will have a chance to visit a local restaurant to practice their learning.
After that Grade 4 will study about ‘Past civilization’ linked with the unit ‘Where We Are in Place and Time’. We will focus on the history of ‘Silla Unification’ and the cultural artifacts from Gyeongju.
During the term Grade 4 will celebrate Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving) and Hangul Day (Korean language proclamation day) linked with the unit ‘Celebration’.
Grade 5 Standard Level
Grade 5 will begin the year by learning Korean language mechanics such as conjugations of the verbs and adjectives, subject and object particles, extended reading and writing grammar.
After that Grade 5 will study ‘Daily Life (Level 2)’. The students will learn vocabulary related to places, time, food and activities. The end of the unit Grade 5 should able to talk about past events and daily routines and be able to write about daily routines and journals.
Grade 5 will also celebrate Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving) and Hangul Day (Korean language proclamation day) linked with the unit ‘Celebaration’.
